Stdup - Memorial Park Statue of  Winnipeg's William Stephenson The Intrepid Allies Project -WINNIPEG, Manitoba: On Tuesday the 3rd of June 2014, The Intrepid Society of Canada will present the first of four limited edition artist proofs of a new bronze maquette of Sir William Stephenson, created by celebrated Manitoba artist Erin Brown, to Canada House in London England. It will be accepted by Gordon Campbell, the Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom at his residence to coincide with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of DDay. The event will commemorate the courage and sacrifice of the members of the British Security Coordination unit and the Allied Secret Services for their critical contribution to the Allied cause in bringing freedom to the people of occupied Europe during the Second World War and in the preparation for the invasion of France by the Allies on DDay the 6th of June 1944. The Honourary Colonel of the Fort Garry Horse, Brian Hastings will present the bronze maquette which will be included in the permanent art collection at Canada House on completion of the building renovations. Over fifty members and guests of the Intrepid Society and The Fort Garry Horse, a Winnipeg regiment, who were in the vanguard of the Normandy invasion, will be in attendance along with local dignitaries and representatives from the government of Manitoba. A second presentation of the bronze maquette will be presented to the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy France on Monday June 9th to honour and commemorate the sacrifices of the French Resistance during the events leading up to the invasion on the 6th of June 1944. This will mark the first time that an allied nation has recognized their efforts. This bronze maquette will be presented by Honourary Colonel Andrew Paterson, formerly of the Fort Garry Horse. The event will be attended by over one hundred guests including members of The Royal Winnipeg Rifles, a Manitoba regiment that participated in the landings on Jun, May 29 2014 / KEN GIGLIOTTI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
