Photo description:
Olivia Clement,11, from the Ottawa area who has raised over $12,000 for polar bear conservation (donation to the World Wildlife Fund) got an opportunity to take part in the positive reinforcement training of the polar bears Storm and Hudson with bear keeper Jesse Kindzierski at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Olivia is concerned about the effects of global warming on polar bears so she began crafting and selling hand-made polar bear figurines and launched the LivPolarBear website. The Assiniboine Park Conservancy hosted the visit for Olivia's first time to see live polar bears. Olivia will be back at the Zoo from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, to sell her hand-made polar bear figurines outside the Tundra Grill in Journey to Churchill with proceeds to be donated to the Assiniboine Park Zoo. see release Wayne Glowacki / Winnipeg Free Press July 25 2014
