Winnipeg Free Press News

Winnipeg Free Press Store
After the unveiling Monday, substitute teacher Morris Henoch along with students at Gray Academy of Jewish Education move their “Buddy Bench” along side the playground. Morris saw a story about Christian Buck, a grade 2 student who saw a problem in his elementary school in the state of New York and had the idea of the Buddy Bench for others to see the students that wanted to be invited and included in a recess activity. Morris sanded and painted one of the school's wooden benches to create an "oasis or refuge" and as a tool to educate the students the importance of inclusion. The goal by spring is no one will be sitting on the bench, everyone is included. Wayne Glowacki/Winnipeg Free Press Sept.15 2014
