STDUP . Contents of the shoe box size Christmas boxes include socks , mits , candy , Wpg Jets pins and potato chips. Soldiers Christmas Boxes were put together by seniors of the Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence for deployed Canadian service personnel on active duty around the world . LtoR Canadian Forces Captain Ken Mick receives boxes made up by seniors including (back rear) Al Chaisson , William Johnston (red sweater) Rona Goldberg event planner , and Gerard Schmitz . There are 95 boxes for local servicemen from 17 Wing and more will be made up for all deployed soldiers by the 23 Retirement Homes partners across Canada . Late last week our Event Planner, Ronna Goldberg, received a phone call from Canadian Forces Captain Mick with an interesting ask if we pooled the resources at our 24 retirement residences across Canada would we be able to put together 600 shoe box size gift packages to be sent to soldiers deployed overseas? (including 95 Manitobans) Well I am proud to let you know that we did it! Tomorrow at 10:00am at our Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence Ronna will be presenting Captain Mick with gift boxes containing special reminders of home to be given to our soldiers at Christmas. (Everything from 200 pins donated by the Winnipeg Jets to an individual letter of thanks for an 11 year old Winnipeg grade 6 student to chocolate bars). .NOV. 14 2014 / KEN GIGLIOTTI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
