DOWNTOWN IGNITES A SACRED FIRE IN HONOUR OF ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS CONFERENCE: DEC. 8 Downtown Winnipeg Äì Kevin Settee, an Ojibway Cree youth from Matheson Island and University of Winnipeg student, will be the Fire Keeper and Pipe Carrier of the Sacred Fire.A sacred fire will be lit on December 8 at 9:00 a.m. at the beginning of what will be a full-day of ceremonies in honour of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Special Chiefs Assembly.The Sacred Fire is in honour of AFN Special Chiefs Assembly .The Pipe ceremony and lighting of Sacred Fire on Dec. 8 at 9:00 a.m. former Carlton Inn (St. Mary & Carlton)ÄúPrayers and intentions are offered through the fire with an offering of tobacco into the fire,Äù says Lisa Meeches, Executive Director of Manito Ahbee. ÄúThe sacred fire welcomes all to come and join and be a part of the ceremonies.ÄùKevin, along with other student volunteers and members of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ will keep the fire burning 24 hours a day, until the AFN Special Chiefs Assembly concludes on Dec. 11.3,000 delegates of the Assembly of First Nations Special Chiefs Assembly will be arriving in downtown Winnipeg.Äù.
